Spring brings first signs of landscaping
3/24/2009
This spring, construction activities on the new campus will include more than just forming the new Hospital building. Plans call for extensive landscaping throughout the site, the first signs of which will be visible in the coming months.
Plantings around the two retention ponds adjacent to Brush Hill Road will mark the first part of plans to create a "building in a garden" concept. The ponds, which occupy more than three acres, were completed in 2008.
Soon, the prairie plantings will be added and provide diverse seasonal colors. They are being started now because of the period of time needed to establish prairies. By the time the new campus opens in 2011, these plantings will be mostly mature.
The plantings are low maintenance once established and require little to no watering beyond what is provided by natural rainfall. The remainder of the landscaping is scheduled to be installed in fall 2010 and spring 2011.
