The future of surgery at EMH

Technological advances in healthcare are occurring every day, and we have been very cognizant of that during every step of the planning process for our new Hospital. For example, our operating rooms have been designed to incorporate everything we know about surgery today while allowing flexibility for what may happen in the future.

As we were designing the operating rooms, I was meeting with members of our project team and surgeons on our Medical Staff. We were talking through the equipment needs and space requirements, and we were having trouble conceptualizing how it would all come together.

We went into our largest conference room, blocked off an area equal to the proposed size of our operating rooms and brought down all of the necessary equipment. When we were done, it was evident to everyone in the room that the space was enough to accommodate our needs now and allow for future integration of technology.

This is just one example of the teamwork and attention to detail that have gone into every step of our planning process.
