Clinical Pastoral Education

Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare is accredited by the National Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) for the training of hospital chaplains. For 2009-10, there are five CPE Level II positions available. The program, which offers opportunities for concentrations in five different areas throughout the health system, begins in September and runs through the end of August each year.

Benefits

Participants will receive a number of benefits, including:

  • a $25,000 stipend
  • Low-cost tuition ($200 per quarter for CPE Level II)
  • Individual and family health insurance available
  • 28 days of personal time off
  • Free TB and titer testing

Emphasis on:

  • Pastoral Care to heart by-pass patients and their families

Crisis Care

Emphasis on:

  • Emergency Department, Critical Care Unit and Surgical waiting
  • Spiritual assessment
  • Multidisciplinary patient care
  • Family Systems Pastoral Care

Behavioral Health

Emphasis on:

  • Spiritual assessment
  • Multidisciplinary patient care
  • Pastoral Care in inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Facilitating spirituality groups

Transitional Care

Emphasis on:

  • Spiritual assessment
  • Multidisciplinary patient care
  • Geriatric specialty
  • Unit Prayer Services

Hospice

Emphasis on:

  • Spiritual assessment
  • Multidisciplinary patient care
  • Family Systems Pastoral Care
  • In-home patient and family visitation
